Dog Peed on the Couch, What to Do?

Your beloved pet has left a urine stain on the couch. What should you do to save the upholstery and stuffing from the stain and, most important, from the terrible smell of urine in the room?

1. Don’t take the animal to a shelter or burn your couch. Drink some water and calm down.
2. Blot the stain with paper towels and microfiber cloths to absorb as much liquid as possible. Do not rub the stain; press gently. After absorbing the liquid, slightly dampen the stain with water and blot again. If you use a vacuum without removable filters, it’s likely to retain the urine smell.
3. Mix vinegar with warm water in equal parts and add a bit of detergent or shampoo. Use this solution to blot the stain and absorb all the moisture again.
4. Ensure your upholstery won’t be damaged by vinegar, then dampen the stain with vinegar. Blot the moisture and sprinkle baking soda on the stain. Let it dry completely, then vacuum the couch.

Before starting, check that the upholstery won’t be damaged by the vinegar and detergents to avoid ruining it. If the couch has been used for a long time without professional cleaning, the stain is likely to set or leave rings due to accumulated dust and grease in the upholstery.
